Our Take
Best for: Adventurous couples seeking the most beautiful water in Southeast Asia
Palawan is the one destination where the Instagram photos actually undersell reality. The Big Lagoon in El Nido, the Kayangan Lake descent in Coron, the underground river in Puerto Princesa — each would be a highlight anywhere else. Together they make Palawan arguably the most visually stunning accessible destination in Asia. It's mid-range rather than budget because island logistics add up, but every peso is worth it.
When to Go
December to March. Dry season with calm seas for island hopping. January-February is the sweet spot — best weather, before Easter crowds.
Watch Out
Internal flights from Manila to El Nido/Coron are on small planes that cancel in weather. Have a backup plan and don't book tight international connections. Island hopping boats are basic — bring reef-safe sunscreen and water shoes.
“The most beautiful water in Asia, period. Worth the extra logistics to get here.”
