Mexico City is the single best value-for-depth destination in the Americas right now. The food alone justifies the trip — $1 street tacos that would win awards in any other city, market fonditas serving three-course lunches for $4, and a fine-dining scene (Pujol, Quintonil) that competes with anywhere on Earth. Layer in the Aztec Templo Mayor literally beneath the city center, Diego Rivera's murals in the National Palace (free), and the best museum in Latin America (National Museum of Anthropology), and you have a city that could fill two weeks without repeating. Roma and Condesa neighborhoods deliver the walkable cafe-and-mezcal-bar vibe that digital nomads are flocking to.
When to Go
November or March–April. November is the sweet spot — dry, comfortable (21°C highs), post-rainy-season, thin crowds, and you can catch Día de los Muertos festivities in late October/early November. March–April is the driest and warmest but Semana Santa spikes hotel prices. Rainy season (June–September) brings afternoon thunderstorms but lower prices.
Watch Out
The metro is $0.28/ride but crowded and a pickpocket risk during rush hour — use Uber for evening travel. Altitude (7,350 ft) can cause headaches the first day; hydrate aggressively. The new DNR tourist entry fee (983 MXN/~$56 USD) applies to all international visitors in 2026. FIFA World Cup matches (June–July 2026) will spike accommodation citywide.
